In this chapter, a global picture with recent fi ndings in ABA metabolism and responses is overviewed. Because of putting the priority on simplicity, to understand historical importance, you should refer to other reviews such as Cutler et al. (Annu Rev Plant Biol 61:651–79, 2010). In recent years, many enzymes responsible for the synthesis and catabolism of ABA have been identifi ed, almost completing the main pathway of ABA production. In ABA-responding cells, there are sets of core components in the ABA reception system, which regulates multiple responses including induction of gene expression and alteration of ion transport. Many players modify the core components to produce sophisticated reactions. The possibility of modifi cation of the pathways at the molecular level to improve crop productivity will be discussed in the fi nal section.

Research Article: Extraction of abscisic acid and gibberellin from Sargassum muticum (Phaeophyceae) and Gracilaria corticata (Rhodophyta) harvested from Persian Gulf
Phytohormones are present in seaweeds but little is known about occurrence and content of them in seaweeds of Persian Gulf. The aim of this study was extraction of abscisic acid and gibberellin in Sargassum muticum and Gracilaria corticata. The seaweeds were collected bimonthly over one year at Bushehr coasts, Persian Gulf, during a range of environmental conditions. We explored new HPLC method...
متن کاملAbscisic Aldehyde Is an Intermediate in the Enzymatic Conversion of Xanthoxin to Abscisic Acid in Phaseolus vulgaris L. Leaves.
The enzymatic conversion of xanthoxin to abscisic acid by cell-free extracts of Phaseolus vulgaris L. leaves has been found to be a two-step reaction catalyzed by two different enzymes. Xanthoxin was first converted to abscisic aldehyde followed by conversion of the latter to abscisic acid. The enzyme activity catalyzing the synthesis of abscisic aldehyde from xanthoxin (xanthoxin oxidase) was ...

The plant hormone abscisic acid and the transcriptional activator VIVIPAROUSl have a synergistic effect on transcript ion during embryo development. An abscisic acid-responsive element (ABRE) mediates induction by abscisic acid and VlVlPAROUSl, but the mechanism involved has not been determined. In this study, we explore the interaction between abscisic acid and VIVIPAROUSl and i ts effect on t...
